Free assistance for veterans who have recently transitioned from active-duty status to help them with their financial goals is now available at OhioMeansJobs Stark County.  Selected by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the workforce development and training center is hosting a full-time financial coach.  It is part of the CFPB's financial coaching initiative.

Lori Mann of Massillon is offering free financial coaching services at critical points in veterans' and their survivors' lives as they move along the path to financial stability.  Mann can be contacted at This email address is being protected from spambots. "We are pleased that after a nationwide competitive search we were selected by CFPB, in partnership with the Department of Labor.  OhioMeansJobs Stark County is one of 60 diverse partner organizations from around the country selected to host professional financial coaches," says Jennifer Meek Eells, Executive Director of the Workforce Investment Board.

"Roughly 250,000 service members leave active duty every year, and the financial transition into civilian life can be challenging.  The Department of Defense offers a Transition Assistance Program (TAP), but many transitioning service members lack experience in money management, and find after they leave military service that they may need help in reworking the financial plan they made while in TAP.  At this point a trusted source of financial information and advice could make the difference in a successful transition to a financially stable post-military life" explained Meek Eells.

Military members also are invited to Military Consumer Protection Day on Wednesday, July 15th from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ohio MeansJobs Stark County at 822-30th Street N.W. in Canton.  Military members and veterans will have the opportunity to obtain consumer information to make informed decisions for purchases and acquire resource information that can assist in protecting their money.
